This half day course is designed to help practitioners who are concerned about the emotional maltreatment of a child or young person. The course provides a framework to help staff to identify this type of abuse which is often unintentional, and the appropriate vocabulary with which to record concerns within their agency assessment. It is recommended that prior to attending the course; practitioners think about some of the families they work with where they suspect emotional maltreatment may be a feature and about whom they are happy to discuss (anonymously) in the training.

The training will be beneficial for the following staff (but not exclusive to)

CAMHS staff, Children’s Nurses, Midwives, AHP’s ( who work with children),Adult Mental health Staff, Paediatricians, Health Visitors , Social Workers or other workers who have direct or direct and regular contact with children:

This is the Direct Contact workforce or Specific Contact Workforce ( National Framework for Child Protection 2012) or those staff working at levels 3-5 (Intercollegiate Document 2019).
