Change, Loss & Bereavement Awareness Training – Level 2

Grief is a normal and natural reaction to a loss. Children and young people grieve just as deeply as adults but they show it in different ways Children and young people rely on the adults around them to support them in their grief journey. This training is a foundation level course to provide attendees with an opportunity to consider how grief impacts for children and young people who are dealing with significant change, loss and/or bereavement. Those attending should leave with a basic knowledge and understanding of what they can do to support Children & Young People at a universal level to allow all Children & Young People to Thrive.

This training has been created by a multi-agency group of professionals to support C&YP, practitioners and families to access information and support relating to the loss and change which we all experience throughout our lives

 1.5 HOUR COURSE

What can I expect from this training?
Promote understanding of CLB and how to respond appropriately to those experiencing it
Consider the effect of CLB on children and young people and how this impacts on them day to day
Support staff to feel more confident in responding to CLB and to be aware of the resources that can support this

This training is designed for –

School staff including –  Class Teachers, Pupil Support Assistants , Children Service Workers, Head Teachers, Depute Head Teachers, Pastoral Teams, Additional Support Need Teaching staff

Also staff/ adults  from wider  range of services and professional roles  e.g Primary Mental Health Workers, Practice Leads,  Educational Psychologists, Social work, Health staff, Support workers also including voluntary services and foster carers

This session will cover:

  • What is loss?
  • Secondary losses
  • Brief introduction to theories of grief
  • Examples of Young People’s experiences of CLB
  • Your role in supporting Young People
  • How to respond to CLB
  • Support available

Provides information about further courses, reading and resources available

 

By the end of this training, staff should:

  • Know how common trauma is and understand different types of trauma and their impact
  • Understand how people with traumatic memories experience situations, including how children of different ages present
  • Know how to respond to a known traumatic event, or to help people with the consequences of trauma even when the history is unknown
  • Connect trauma informed practice to their core roles and to the Practice Model
  • Have some ideas for self-care and reducing the impact of vicarious trauma

Who should attend?

All staff who have regular contact with children and young people and/or their family members should attend this training.

In particular those staff who:

  • Have day to day contact with children of any age and families
  • Carry out direct or indirect work with children and families
  • Provide specialist advice to those who work with children or families
  • Manage services that work with children and families
  • Develop policy and practice in organisations across the CPC partnership
