Join us for our first Community of Practice Session with special guests Bernadette Cairns and Lou Kinnear; learn about why embedding the strategy is so important and how some of our children from Armed Forces Families have been involved since it launched.

Connect with practitioners across Highland, and hear from local and national voices, to explore how we can meaningfully embed the Highland Children & Young People Participation Strategy in everyday practice.

Lou Kinnear leads Highland Council’s MLG (Education) partnership, a tri service collaboration established in 2018 that brings together Armed Forces representatives, specialist services, third sector partners, and, most importantly, children and young people.
Lou is the co author of My Rights to Wellbeing, a training resource designed to help educators amplify pupils’ voices and strengthen emotional literacy, resilience and empowerment. Over the past 15 years, she has worked across Early Years, Primary and Secondary contexts within Highland Council, specialising in supporting children and young people with complex Additional Support Needs and social, emotional and behavioural needs, and providing advice, guidance and training to staff.

Monthly sessions will include:

  • Presentations from local or national speakers
  • Q&A to deepen understanding
  • Time for conversation, networking and informal sharing to support collaboration across Highland

Together, we’ll look at how others are working with children and young people to bring the Strategy to life and strengthen participation across services.

Our work is underpinned by the Lundy Model of Participation, the UNCRC, GIRFEC, and The Promise.

Supporting rights‑based, inclusive and relational practice.

Open to all practitioners engaging with children and young people across Highland.

This session is suitable for all sectors and any practitioner or manager working or engaging with Children and Families in Highland.

This is an online event.  Format will be presentation (presentation recorded only cameras and mics will be switched during this period), followed by question and answer session and group discussion (not recorded).

Booking link will be sent on confirmation of booking.
