This course is for those who wish to develop their knowledge and skills when attending or facilitating Solution Focused Meetings in Highland. The day is made up of three sessions; the first provides an opportunity to reflect on practice for meetings in general with the second and third sessions concentrating on Solution Focused practice. It is therefore essential that attendees have completed the Solution Focused Approaches Training where attendees have become familiar with the principles and have practised Solution Focused skills and techniques.

Attendees will have the opportunity to apply these skills and techniques within a meeting forum and learn about using solution focused approaches in meetings with different purposes, including a systemic piece of work in a school and a meeting to plan and review the support for an individual.

The overall objectives of the programme are to:

Session 1 – Preparation for a good meeting:

  • Develop knowledge of preparation for meetings
  • Develop understanding of different perspectives when meetings are in person, online and hybrid
  • Develop understanding of the impact of different types of questions

Session 2 – Systemic Solution Focused Meetings

  • Consolidate knowledge of the solution focused approach
  • Develop understanding of how a solution foucsed approach can be used in meetings
  • Build experience of using a solution focused approach in meetings.

Session 3 – Solution Focused Meetings for individuals

  • Applying our knowledge and understanding of effective meetings e.g. in preparing and involving children and young people in meetings.
  • Applying our knowledge and understanding of solution focused practice by using solution focused skills and techniques
  • Developing skills in facilitating solution focused meetings.

The course compliments the Highland GIRFEC training, and the Solution Focused Approaches course is a pre-requisite for attendees.
