SUMMARY:Workshop to Raise Awareness of PREVENT
DESCRIPTION:What is PREVENT?\n\nPrevent is part of the UK’s counter terro
rism strategy (CONTEST) which has four strands:\n\nPURSUE – To pursue th
e terrorist and stop terrorist attacks\n\nPROTECT – To strengthen our co
mmunities against a terrorist attack\n\nPREPARE – To mitigate the impact
of a terrorist attack\n\nPREVENT – To prevent young people becoming inv
olved in\, or supporting terrorism\n\nPREVENT aims to help practitioners i
dentify and respond to early indications that an individual may be vulnera
 ble to\, or at risk of\, radicalisation.\n\nSection 26 of the Counter-Terr
orism and Security Act 2015 (the Act) places a duty on certain bodies (lis
ted in Schedule 6 of the Act) to have\, in the exercise of their functions
\, “due regard to the need to prevent people from being drawn into terro
rism”. This includes Highland Council\, NHS Highland and Police Scotland
 .\n\nhttps://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/
 file/445978/3799_Revised_Prevent_Duty_Guidance__Scotland_V2.pdf\n\nPrevent
is not designed to instruct people how to think and what to believe and i
t’s important that we allow young people to express their thoughts in or
der to develop our own understanding and challenge any myths or risk takin
g behaviour. However\, where beliefs and ideologies lead to criminal inten
t or activity\, a young person may be at risk of harm to themselves or fro
m others.\n\nWorkshop to Raise Awareness of Prevent (WRAP)\n\nWRAP is an i
nteractive facilitated workshop aimed at front line staff. It aims is to p
rovide attendees with an awareness and understanding of the Prevent agenda
and their role within it.\n\nIn particular\, it aims to highlight:\n\n D
efinitions of PREVENT\, radicalisation and terrorism\n Factors which coul
d indicate a young person is more vulnerable to/at risk of radicalisation
\n Behaviours which may indicate a young person is being groomed for radi
calisation purposes\n Processes for responding to children\, young people
and families at risk\n\nTraining takes approximately 2 hours and is avail
able free of charge to all practitioners working with children\, young peo
ple and family members (including those based in adult services).
