SUMMARY:Fabricated and Induced Illness - Awareness Raising Session
DESCRIPTION:Recent complex and challenging patients have highlighted a need
  for greater understanding of fabricated or induced illness (FII)\, which 
 falls within the wider spectrum of emotional abuse. This awareness raising
  session delivered by Dr Danya Glaser aims to help practitioners understan
 d Fabricated and Induced Illness.\n\nThis session is specifically targeted
  at people who have an interest in finding out more about Fabricated and I
 nduced Illness. It will be of particular interest to foster carers\, child
 ren's panel members and organisations supporting children and families.\n\
 nNB: Staff responsible for leading assessment and planning processes shoul
 d attend the full day session.\n\nDr Danya Glaser is a Visiting Professor 
 at UCL and honorary consultant child &amp\; adolescent psychiatrist at Gre
 at Ormond Street Hospital for Children\, London.  She is currently workin
 g on the early recognition of fabricated or induced illness.\n\nPreviously
  a developmental paediatrician\, at Great Ormond Street Hospital she was n
 amed doctor for child protection and for many years headed an integrated c
 hild protection service working respectively with the identification and t
 reatment of emotional abuse\; providing multidisciplinary assessments for 
 Children Act proceedings as an expert witness and a post protection team w
 orking with children who have been seriously maltreated and their current\
 , often new carers.\n\nShe was a member of the Family Justice Council for 
 6 years and chaired the Development Group for the NICE Guideline ‘When t
 o Suspect Child Maltreatment’ (Clinical Guideline No. 89\, December 2009
 ).  Dr Glaser has taught\, researched and written widely on various aspec
 ts of child maltreatment including sexual and emotional abuse\, fabricated
  or induced illness\; and the effects of child maltreatment on the develop
 ing brain.\n\nThis course is targeted at practitioners working directly wi
 th children and families. Priority will be offered to health\, education\,
  police and social care professionals with child protection responsibilit
 ies.\n\nA light lunch will be provided so please advise us of any dietary 
 requirements. Unfortunately we are unable to accommodate all dietary prefe
 rences so if you would be happier bringing along your own lunch please fee
 l free to do so.\n\nNB: We may have to limit places to one per team/agency
 . Only 1 place per booking will be accepted.
