SUMMARY:Developing Competence in Child Protection (Thurso)
DESCRIPTION:Getting it Right in Child Protection: Developing Competence in 
 Child Protection\n\n1 day course: 09.30am-4.30pm\n\nThis training is desig
 ned for staff who have regular contact with children and/or families\, inc
 luding those working within adult services. This course takes a more in de
 pth look at the different types of abuse and neglect\, as well as giving p
 articipants information about managing disclosures and handling sensitive 
 situations.\n\nWhat can I expect from this training?\n\nBy the end of this
  training\, staff should:\n•Understand the overarching principles of Get
 ting it Right for Every Child\n•Understand the SHANARI well-being indica
 tors\n•Recognise concerns about children\, and what to do in order to pr
 otect and promote the welfare of children\, including those who are suffer
 ing\, or at risk of suffering\, significant harm\n•Understand the impact
 s of risk on children’s development\n•Recognise specific vulnerabiliti
 es in children and young people\n•Consider the needs of specific groups 
 such as young carers\n\nWho should attend?\n\nAll staff who have regular c
 ontact with children and young people and/or their family members should a
 ttend this training.\n\nIn particular those staff who:\n• Have regular c
 ontact with vulnerable children and families\n• Carry out direct work wi
 th children and families\n• Contribute to assessments of children\, incl
 uding assessment of risk\n• May be required to support the development a
 nd delivery of the Child’s Plan\n• Have specific responsibilities in r
 egard to child protection\n\nPre-requisites:\n\nStaff must have attended a
  child protection training course within the past three years\, or have di
 rect experience of working in the field of child protection.
